Description

This 55 year old Benromach 1949 single malt whisky is from Speyside's smallest working distillery and is the oldest and rarest expression of Benromach released to date. On Friday, 28 January 1949, under the supervision of distillery manager, Tom McKerron, a specially selected cask was filled. For fifty-five years cask number 706 sat quietly maturing, its sturdy oak staves protecting and nurturing the valuable spirit. The contents of this cask is what remains today in this very precious whisky. These amazing bottles of which there are only 83 (35 in the UK) are bottled at 42.4%. Each bottle has been individually hand blown, in spite of what appears to be a lower fill level they hold 70cl as being hand blown it is not a precise art PLEASE NOTE: THIS BOTTLE HAS A SLIGHTLY LOWER FILL LEVEL THERE IS A STAIN ON THE BOTTLE LABEL. Bottle Number 20.

Nose: Esters pervade the nose of this mature malt, perfuming the dram with a blend of blood orange oil, sandalwood and lemon zest. A thin smokiness comes through from the peat along with an array of cloves, cardamom, peppercorn and cinnamon.

Palate: Menthol, basil, and mint cool the palate, elevating the malted barley and smoky oak.

Finish: The smooth, short finish has a sudden note of Oloroso accompanied by brandy with cereal and peat.
