Published by The Whisketeers on Sep 17, 2018

In 2014 Japan's most popular distillery, the Yamazaki, released the first expression in its Limited Edition series, and has since released a new one each year . The 2016 being the third and the 2017 the fourth release, in the limited edition range, which, it seems, grows more popular every year.

Both single malts comprising of vintages of up to 20 years old, including whiskies matured in bourbon, sherry, and European oak casks. They have no age statements, but both have an alcohol content of 43%.

Suntory’s 2016 and 2017 versions continue the distiller’s good name. The whisky is a heady blending of young single malts aged in a combination of American casks and European barrels.

  • DISTILLED IN POT STILLS FROM 100% MALTED BARLEY, PRODUCED AT ONE DISTILLERY, AGED IN BARRELS.
  • CASK TYPE - AMERICAN OAK, SHERRY, BOURBON, EUROPEAN OAK

Super fans of Yamazaki, these are both not to to missed and still affordable enough to drink (at the moment!) Tasting of both are similar, the nose is sweet, soft with melon, custard cream, toffee, biscuits, raisins and cacao. Palate is smooth and sweet with dried fruite and thick honey and the Finish subtle, but long with spicy woodiness and a burst of pepper.

For us the 2017 had the edge in smoothness, but it was a close call!
