Highland Park Thor 16 Year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Description

The first in a new range of four whiskies from Highland Park called The Valhalla Collection. This first release is Thor, God of Thunder and alleged architect of the Cliffs of Yesnaby on the west coast of Orkney Mainland.  The most northerly of Scottish whisky distilleries, Highland Park was founded in 1798 and is one of the most highly regarded single malts in the world, the great Michael Jackson calling it, "The greatest all-rounder in the world of whisky." and Paul Pacult awarded it, "The Best Spirit in the World." in 2005. The unique peat of Orkney gives the whisky a distinctive heathery sweetness.   Nose: Big, bold notes of stem ginger, smoke, antique shops, calves leather, malt, cigars (both unlit and smoking) prune juice, treacle and raisin sweetness. Palate: Tangy, rich and full, it envelopes the palate in notes of tropical fruits (mango, guava), as well as nectarine in syrup, nutmeg, dried ginger, blackcurrant and custard. A plume of coastal air with thick woodsmoke develops. A little salty butter. Finish: Powerful and muscular finish, ginger, nutmeg, cocoa and espresso on the tail.
