about the distillery

Aberlour Distillery

Founded in 1826 but rebuilt in 1879 after a fire. Located in Aberlour, Banffshire, Speyside, Scotland. Founded by James Gordon and Peter Weir, rebuilt by James Fleming in 1879. Chivas Brothers are now the current owners (a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard). Known for mastering sherry maturation, especially in expressions like A'Bunadh. Pronounced ah-BOON-arh (Gaelic for "The Origin"). This ditillery is known for rich, fruit-forward whiskies and frequent use of sherry cask maturation, which gives many of its releases a deep, full-bodied character. The soft, pure water comes from the nearby Birkenbush springs and their barley comes from local farms, no more than 15 miles away. Sourcing locally means they can be sure of the purity and quality, while being kinder to the environment.
