Ardbeg Auriverdes Limited Edition Whisky

Description

Auriverdes is the name of this years Ardbeg day release. Named in the year of the Football World Cup in Brazil, Auri (gold) is the colour of the whisky and Verdes (green) for the distinctive green packaging of this Islay Malt. This special edition has had some special barrel aging, matured in American oak with the cask lids being toasted to add a spicy dimension to this peaty dram. The nose is typical Ardbeg, with herbal notes and hints of mocha. The palate has a mix of smoke, coffee, and smoked bacon. A lingering smoky finish with a pronounced vanilla note from the toasted barrels lids.   Nose: Vanilla and lemon-zest. Tarry and herbal notes with hints of mocha. Much lighter than past Ardbegs with lighter peat and mocha notes. Palate: Creamy coffee to the fore, joined by dark chocolate and mocha, followed by a refreshing peachy character alongside peat and black pepper. A creamy texture, with the mocha notes continuing, joined by liquorice, and a whack of vanilla from the bourbon barrels. The peat is on the lighter side and isn't overpowering. Finish: Long. Cocoa, A lingering, smoky vanilla note with fruity notes slowly dissipating to leave spicy liquorice and peat smoke.
