about the distillery

Glengyle Distillery

Glengyle Distillery was revived by the Mitchell family in 2004, though the site has a long history of whisky production. The distillery building was originally constructed in 1872 and was used by the Glengyle Distillery, which was in operation until 1925. After the closure, the building sat unused for many years.
The Mitchell family saw the potential in the site and decided to reopen it as a new distillery. They named the new venture after the original distillery, choosing the name Glengyle after the area around Campbeltown Bay.
The Mitchell family, known for their long history in Scotch whisky (they also own Springbank Distillery), were able to return the site to life and produce whisky under the Kilkerran brand.
Kilkerran is the name given to the single malt whisky produced at Glengyle Distillery. The brand name is derived from the nearby Kilkerran Bay.
The whiskies produced are not heavily peated, unlike Springbank, which offers both peated and unpeated expressions. However, Kilkerran still shares some similarities in style, with its maritime, earthy characteristics.
