About Tomatin Distillery

Tomatin Distillery

Tomatin Distillery was founded in 1897 by John MacDougal and is located in the Highlands of Scotland, near Inverness. The name "Tomatin" means "Hill of the Juniper." By the mid‑20th century, Tomatin had expanded significantly—from just two stills to an impressive 23 stills—and hit a peak production of around 12.5 million litres per year, making it the largest malt whisky distillery in Scotland in the 1970s. However, the recession of the 1980s forced reorientation. In 1986, Japanese firms Takara Shuzo and Okura & Co. acquired the distillery, a landmark as the first Scottish distillery under Japanese ownership. Core Range
Tomatin’s signature style is soft, fruity, and unpeated Highland single malt, matured in a variety of casks. Since 2005, the distillery has produced Cù Bòcan, their lightly peated malt released annually, often finished in innovative casks.
