About This Whisky

The GlenDronach 12 Year Old 2014 Oloroso Sherry Puncheon Cask #3635 – 70cl 57.6%

The GlenDronach 12 Year Old 2014 Oloroso Puncheon Cask #3635 is a rare cask-strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, released as part of GlenDronach's Cask of Character Distillery Exclusive series.

Distilled on 5 February 2014 and bottled in 2026 after 12 years of maturation, this single malt was matured in a single Oloroso sherry puncheon before being bottled at its natural 57.6% ABV cask strength. It is a single-cask, hand-filled distillery bottling, with Whiskybase also recording the release as naturally coloured and non-chill filtered.

For collectors and enthusiasts of GlenDronach single cask whisky, this release brings together everything that has made the distillery so sought after: Highland spirit, extensive sherry-cask maturation, a single-cask presentation and full cask-strength bottling.

Single Oloroso Sherry Puncheon – Cask #3635

At the heart of this whisky is its maturation in an Oloroso Puncheon.

GlenDronach has a long-established reputation for sherry-matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky, and Oloroso casks have played an important role in the distillery's single-cask releases over many years. Historical GlenDronach bottlings demonstrate the distillery's extensive use of both Oloroso sherry butts and Oloroso sherry puncheons.

Oloroso sherry casks are particularly prized in Scotch whisky maturation for the rich, structured character they can contribute, commonly associated with dried fruit, nuts, spice, dark chocolate and mature oak.

Single Oloroso Sherry Puncheon – Cask #3635

I would definitely include “Oloroso Sherry Puncheon” rather than simply “Sherry Cask”. It is both more accurate and considerably stronger for long-tail searches such as GlenDronach Oloroso Puncheon, Oloroso cask whisky and GlenDronach single cask.

2014 Vintage GlenDronach

This expression was distilled in 2014, making the vintage itself another important element of the product.

The precise record for Cask #3635 gives a distillation date of 5 February 2014, a 2026 bottling year and an official age statement of 12 years.

Vintage-dated GlenDronach releases are particularly interesting because they allow enthusiasts to explore individual periods of production rather than simply comparing standard age-statement expressions.

Bottled at 57.6% Cask Strength

Rather than being reduced to a conventional bottling strength, GlenDronach 2014 Cask #3635 was bottled at 57.6% ABV cask strength.

This provides a powerful and concentrated presentation of the individual Oloroso puncheon. It can be enjoyed neat to experience its full intensity or explored gradually with a small amount of water.

Why Buy GlenDronach 12 Year Old 2014 Oloroso Puncheon?

The appeal of this bottling lies in the combination of a single Oloroso sherry puncheon, 2014 vintage, 12-year age statement, 57.6% cask strength and its status as a Cask of Character Distillery Exclusive.

Unlike the standard GlenDronach range, this release captures the character of one individual cask, making it particularly relevant to collectors and enthusiasts searching for rare GlenDronach whisky, GlenDronach single casks, Oloroso sherry whisky and cask-strength Highland single malt.

About Glendronach

Glendronach Distillery

James Allardice founded the distillery in 1826 and the Glendronach was one of the first licenced distillery's in Scotland. The Glendronach distillery was purchased by Teachers and Sons Ltd around 1960 who increased the number of stills from two to six. In 1920 Captain Charles Grant, son of the founder Glenfiddich purchased Glendronach. The distillery still uses traditional production methods, including the practise of "floor malting" and firing its stills with coal until the 2000's. Glendronachis best known for its use of Spanish sherry casks, oloroso and pedro ximenez (PX), which gives its whisky a rich, fruity and robust character. In 1996 the distillery was temporarily closed and reopened again in 2002 by Allied Distillers Limited. It was later sold to BenRiach Distillery company in 2008, leading to a major revival of the brand. The name Glendronach derives from the Scottish Gaelic Gleann Dronach which means "valley of the brambles".
