About This Whisky

Laphroaig Elements 3.0 Limited Release is the third installment in Laphroaig's experimental Elements series, which delves into the nuances of whisky production beyond traditional maturation techniques. This limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at a robust 55.3% ABV. Unlike typical whisky innovations that focus on cask maturation, Elements 3.0 centers on the distillation process. The batch was produced following an unexpected kiln fire at the distillery, resulting in unusually high peat-burning temperatures. This release is a testament to Laphroaig's commitment to innovation and craftsmanship, perfect for whisky enthusiasts seeking a unique expression.

About Laphroaig Distillery

Laphroaig Distillery

Founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The Johnstons who founded Laphroaig were from the Clan Donald and are likely to be from the MacIain of Ardnamurchan branch of the clan. The family anglicised their name to Johnston. In 2014 the distillery was purchased by Suntory Holdings (a subsidiary of Suntory Holdings of Japan). The distillery is situated on the South coast of Islay, Scotland. Among other known distilleries such as Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. "Laphroaig" comes from the Gaelic "lag bhroig" meaning "the hollow of the broad bay". Laphroaig uses malted barley dried over a peat fire, using locally cut Islay peat. This gives its whisky its distinctive medicinal and smoky flavor. The Kilbride Stream, which flows through peat bogs and softens the water with minerals and phenols. Onion-shaped stills with a pronounced "swan neck," contributing to its unique spirit character. Maturation takes place close to the sea in traditional dunnage warehouses, adding a maritime influence to the whisky.
