About Mortlach

Mortlach Distillery

Mortlach is located in the heart of Speyside, near the town of Dufftown in the northeast of Scotland. It sits amidst a region renowned for whisky production, with many of the world’s most famous distilleries nearby.
Mortlach was founded in 1823 by James Fleming, and it has been producing whisky continuously since then, making it one of the oldest operating distilleries in Speyside.
The name Mortlach is derived from the Gaelic words “Mòr” (big) and “Lach” (lake), possibly referring to the nearby stream or river.
Mortlach has had several ownership changes throughout its history. It was originally independent but was later bought by various companies over the years, including The Distillers Company Limited (DCL), and eventually became part of Diageo when DCL merged into it. Despite these ownership shifts, Mortlach has maintained a distinct identity, with a loyal following of whisky aficionados.
