Bruichladdich Octomore 2012 First Limited Release - 10 Year Old Whisky

Description

Only 6,000 bottles of this first Octomore 10-year-old have been released, taking this new cult Islay to another level. This expression is peated to 80.5ppm and bottled at 50% abv. In only a few years, this quite exceptional spirit from Bruichladdich has built a towering reputation as a unique and highly sophisticated dram. Combining the power of the worlds most heavily-peated barley with the purity and elegance of spirit produced by the classic long-necked Bruichladdich stills, this is a whisky for the connoisseur and the enlightened student of peat. Voted single malt of the year 2010 by Jim Murray, and only ever released at five years of age, the question has always been asked: How will this incredible spirit develop with age? Now for the first time a lucky few will know.    Nose: Rum and raisin ice-cream and huge notes of gin. Hints of smoked almonds and honey develop with candied lemon, tropical fruit and huge oily peat smoke. Palate: Sweet, creamy palate entry, quickly backed up by a coastal explosion of peat smoke and spice. Chipotle chilli, caramel and toasted barley. Very oily and rich. Finish: Long, spiced finish with hints of saffron on the tail.
