About Kildalton

Kildalton Distillery

This early distillery operated for a brief period before being renamed to Kildalton in 1849. After a few more changes in ownership and names, it eventually became known as the Islay Distillery in 1852, before being subsumed by Laphroaig in 1853. The term "Kildalton Distillery" is often used to refer to a group of historic whisky distilleries located in the Kildalton parish on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. This area is renowned for its rich whisky heritage and is home to several iconic distilleries. The name "Kildalton" is also associated with Kildalton Castle, a Victorian country house built in 1870 for John Ramsay, a prominent distiller and Member of Parliament. In contemporary whisky culture, "Kildalton" is often used as a tribute to the rich whisky heritage of the region. For instance, Ardbeg released a limited edition whisky named Ardbeg Kildalton in 2014 to raise funds for a community project in Port Ellen .
