The 11th batch of single cask releases from the GlenDronach distillery in the Highlands was unveiled in early 2015. The youngest release in that batch was this 18 year old single malt Scotch whisky, which was distilled in February 1996, left to mature in Oloroso Sherry butt #244 and bottled in November 2014 with an outturn of 399 bottles. The GlenDronach spirit stands up well to the cask, taking on plenty of sweet fig, Demerara sugar and oak spice. Nose: Rich, sweet figs infused with vanilla and ground almonds, balanced with a crisp ginger spice. Palate: A tremendous balance of mixed candied peel and stewed dark fruits sprinkled with dark Demerara. Delicious waves of toffee.Finish: Cracked barley and warm oak spices combine to give a long, elegant finish.
