This limited edition bottling was launched in 2012 to mark the 125th anniversary of the Glenfiddich distillery, which opened on Christmas Day 1887. The whisky is a vatting of peated and unpeated Glenfiddich spirits each of different ages and matured in a variety of casks. A large proportion comes from Spanish ex-sherry casks giving the whisky a fantastic flavour. The bottle is presented in a luxury gift tin together with an explanatory leaflet of the products story and tasting notes, together with an etched solid copper stopper. Nose: The peat characteristics unfold in the flavours of wild heather, roasted cashews, burnt wood, and burnt sugar smell of creme brle. These peat flavours merge with unpeated fruity notes of apple, raspberry and pear. Flavours are expertly balanced, and are not altered dramatically on addition of water. Palate: As you savour the whisky on your tongue, multiple flavours unfold, one by one. The first to be identified are the delicious tastes of vanilla, red apples and marmalade. The peat flavour of soft-stemmed plants pushes through next. Taste of toasted oak follows. Finish: Strong flavours of cinnamon, cigarette-ash, camphor and a contrasting caramel, can be experienced in the medium-length whisky finish.
