About This Whisky

Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979 – 12th Release | Rare Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 52.5% ABV)

The Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979 – 12th Release is a legendary Islay single malt from the famed closed distillery, Port Ellen. Released in 2012 as part of Diageo’s exclusive Special Releases series, this is the 12th annual bottling, crafted from some of the last remaining stocks of Port Ellen’s historic warehouses.

Distilled in 1979, matured for over three decades, and bottled at natural cask strength of 52.5% ABV, this limited-edition expression offers a superb example of Port Ellen’s signature maritime character. Expect refined notes of dry peat smoke, briny sea air, lemon zest, herbal smoke, and well-integrated oak spice — with a long, balanced finish that reflects the elegance of age.

Presented in a 70cl bottle, with just 2,964 bottles released worldwide, this is a must-have for collectors, investors, and lovers of rare, closed distillery Scotch whisky.

About Port Ellen

Port Ellen Distillery is a legendary Scotch whisky distillery located on the southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland. It was established in 1825 by the McGill family and quickly became one of the most renowned distilleries on the island, famous for its peated whisky production. Port Ellen is particularly celebrated for its rich, smoky flavor profile, which is typical of many Islay whiskies, with a distinctive peatiness and maritime character.
Even though the distillery is no longer in operation, bottles of Port Ellen whisky continue to fetch high prices on the secondary market due to their rarity. They are often considered collectors' items and some of the bottlings released by Diageo (the current owner) from Port Ellen's casks are highly sought after.
