About Benromach

Benromach Distillery

Benromach first opened in 1900, and is situated next to the railway line in Forres, about 25 miles east of Inverness on the main route to Aberdeen. Like many distilleries that opened around this time, the distillery survived until the 1980s, but with many changes of ownership and extended periods of closure. Benromach's last closure was from 1982 until 1993, when it was bought by Elgin-based Gordon & Macphail. G&M completely stripped the old equipment and installed new, smaller stills, as well as opening an attractive visitor centre on the site. With the rebirth of Benromach, Gordon & MacPhail has expanded the range of whiskies it produces at the site, including peated and organic barley versions.
