About This Whisky

The Dailuaine 1973 Rare Malts 22 Year Old (released at 60.92% ABV in a 75cl bottle) is an exceptional single malt Scotch whisky that forms part of Diageo's Rare Malts series. The Rare Malts series, which ran from the late 1990s into the early 2000s, showcased a variety of rare, older casks from some of Diageo's lesser-known distilleries, offering whisky lovers a chance to experience unique and often highly collectible expressions. This particular bottling comes from the Dailuaine distillery, which, while not as widely known as other Speyside distilleries, has a long history of producing rich, full-bodied whiskies, often used in blends but rarely seen as a single malt in such an old, cask-strength form.

About Dailuaine

Dailuaine Distillery

Dailuaine Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. It was established in 1852 by William McKenzie. Dailuaine is known for producing high-quality malt whisky, primarily used in blends, particularly for brands like Johnnie Walker. Dailuaine was at a time in the 19th century, Speyside's largest distillery, and it was home to Scotland's first pagoda roofed kiln. That distillery perished in a fire however, in 1917. The newly rebuilt distillery was acquired by DCL (now Diageo) who used its "meaty" spirit as a filler for their many blends. As with most of the single malt operations in the Diageo portfolio, the Flora & Fauna release was Dailuaine's first ever distillery bottling. It has a traditional style with copper pot stills, and it uses some old-fashioned methods in its production, which gives its whisky a rich, deep flavor profile. The core flavor notes often include rich malt, dark fruits, spices, and a hint of oak, making it a favorite among whisky enthusiasts who enjoy more robust drams.
