Knockdhu Distillery

Knockdhu Distillery is a historic Highland Scotch whisky distillery located near the village of Knock, close to Huntly in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Established in 1894 by John Morrison, the distillery sits beneath the iconic Knock Hill (An Cnoc), from which the AnCnoc whisky brand takes its name.

Construction of the distillery began after Morrison recognised the area's outstanding natural resources, including exceptionally pure spring water from the nearby Knock Hill springs and access to high-quality barley from the surrounding fertile farmland. Knockdhu officially began production in October 1894 and has since earned a reputation for producing elegant, fruit-forward Highland single malt Scotch whiskies.

Today, Knockdhu Distillery is owned by International Beverage Holdings Ltd, part of the Thai Beverage (ThaiBev) Group, and is best known for producing the internationally acclaimed AnCnoc range of single malts. The whisky was rebranded as AnCnoc in 1994 to avoid confusion with the similarly named Knockando Distillery in Speyside.

Knockdhu continues to use traditional production methods, including small copper pot stills, long fermentation times, and pure Highland spring water, creating a distinctive spirit known for its fresh citrus notes, honeyed sweetness, soft vanilla, floral aromas, and gentle spice. While the core AnCnoc range is unpeated, the distillery also releases occasional limited-edition peated expressions that showcase a richer, smokier side of its spirit.

The distillery produces approximately 1.9 million litres of alcohol annually, with whisky matured in a variety of cask types, including American oak ex-bourbon barrels, Spanish oak sherry casks, and selected wine casks for limited releases.
