About This Whisky

Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979 – 11th Release | Rare Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 53.9% ABV)

The Port Ellen 32 Year Old 1979 – 11th Release is an ultra-rare and collectible Islay single malt whisky from the legendary closed distillery, Port Ellen. Bottled in 2011 as part of Diageo’s prestigious Annual Special Releases, this expression is one of the longest-aged and most revered official Port Ellen bottlings ever released.

Distilled in 1979 and matured for 32 years in refill American oak casks, this cask strength Scotch is bottled at 53.9% ABV and presented in a 70cl format. With only 2,964 bottles released globally, it stands as a must-have for serious collectors, whisky investors, and connoisseurs.

Expect a classic Port Ellen profile: elegant peat smoke, coastal salinity, charred oak, citrus peel, and a long, warming finish. The complexity, balance, and aging finesse make this a benchmark for closed distillery single malts.

About Port Ellen

Port Ellen Distillery is a legendary Scotch whisky distillery located on the southern coast of the Isle of Islay, Scotland. It was established in 1825 by the McGill family and quickly became one of the most renowned distilleries on the island, famous for its peated whisky production. Port Ellen is particularly celebrated for its rich, smoky flavor profile, which is typical of many Islay whiskies, with a distinctive peatiness and maritime character.
Even though the distillery is no longer in operation, bottles of Port Ellen whisky continue to fetch high prices on the secondary market due to their rarity. They are often considered collectors' items and some of the bottlings released by Diageo (the current owner) from Port Ellen's casks are highly sought after.
