About This Whisky

Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026 Release Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 70cl 46%

The Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026 Release is a highly anticipated Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky produced at Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery and bottled at 46% ABV.

The 2026 edition is particularly noteworthy because its maturation differs from previous annual releases. This year's Kilkerran 16 Year Old has been matured entirely in sherry casks, producing a darker, richer interpretation of the distinctive Kilkerran house style. The 2026 release is also bottled without added colouring and without chill filtration.

Combining 16 years of maturation, full sherry-cask influence and Kilkerran's characteristic Campbeltown personality, this is an exciting release for enthusiasts searching for Kilkerran whisky, sherry cask Campbeltown whisky, Glengyle single malt and limited 2026 Scotch whisky releases.

100% Sherry Cask Matured Kilkerran

The defining characteristic of the Kilkerran 16-Year-Old 2026 Release is its cask composition.

Unlike previous annual editions that incorporated bourbon, sherry and occasionally rum casks in different proportions, the 2026 Kilkerran 16 was matured entirely in sherry casks. This is confirmed by specialist release information and Whiskybase for the 2026 bottling.

The sherry maturation complements Kilkerran's robust, slightly smoky Campbeltown spirit, introducing layers of dark fruit, brown sugar, chocolate and dried fruit alongside the whisky's characteristic mineral, maritime and lightly ashy qualities.

Best Website Cask Field

100% Sherry Cask Matured

I would use this rather than simply “Sherry Casks”, as 100% sherry maturation is one of the strongest selling points and search terms for the 2026 release.

Kilkerran 16 Year Old – The 2026 Release

Kilkerran 16 Year Old became part of the distillery's core range in 2020 and has subsequently been released annually.

Importantly, the cask recipe can change from year to year. Kilkerran itself explains that the maturation varies between annual releases, providing a different interpretation of its 16-year-old whisky each year.

That makes the 2026 Kilkerran 16 Year Old particularly interesting to enthusiasts who follow the annual releases and compare the influence of different maturation styles.

About Kilkerran Whisky

Kilkerran Single Malt Whisky is produced at Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, one of Scotland's smallest and most historic whisky-producing regions.

Although the whisky is distilled at Glengyle, it is bottled under the Kilkerran name. The modern distillery returned to production in 2004, and Kilkerran has subsequently developed a particularly strong following among enthusiasts of traditional Scotch whisky.

Kilkerran is typically associated with a characterful combination of:

  • Rich malt
  • Orchard and citrus fruit
  • Mineral character
  • Coastal salinity
  • Gentle peat smoke
  • Oily texture
  • Earthy notes
  • Oak and spice
  • Subtle Campbeltown funk

The 2026 Kilkerran 16 Year Old takes this familiar distillery character and combines it with significantly richer sherry-cask influence.

Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Campbeltown was once one of Scotland's great whisky-producing centres and remains an officially recognised Scotch whisky region.

Today, the region is particularly admired by enthusiasts for whiskies displaying distinctive combinations of malt, fruit, coastal salinity, smoke, oiliness and earthy or industrial complexity.

The Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026 is an excellent example of modern Campbeltown whisky, combining those traditional characteristics with the richness of full sherry-cask maturation.

Natural Colour & Non-Chill Filtered

The Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026 Release is bottled at 46% ABV, with no added colouring and no chill filtration.

Why Buy Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026?

The 2026 Kilkerran 16 Year Old stands apart from previous annual releases because of its 100% sherry cask maturation.

Key features include:

  • 16 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt
  • 2026 annual release
  • 100% sherry cask maturation
  • Produced at Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery
  • Bottled at 46% ABV
  • Natural colour
  • Non-chill filtered
  • Rich chocolate and dark-fruit character
  • Characteristic Kilkerran coastal and lightly smoky style
  • Popular with Campbeltown whisky enthusiasts
  • Distinct maturation compared with previous Kilkerran 16 releases

Kilkerran 16 Year Old 2026 vs Previous Releases

One of the most interesting aspects of Kilkerran 16 is that its cask composition changes between releases.

For example, the 2024 edition combined bourbon, sherry and rum casks, while the 2025 edition used bourbon and sherry maturation. The 2026 edition moves decisively towards sherry, being recorded as entirely sherry-cask matured.

This makes the 2026 bottling especially relevant to enthusiasts who collect different vintages of Kilkerran 16 or favour richer sherry-matured Campbeltown whisky.

About Glengyle

Glengyle Distillery

Glengyle Distillery was revived by the Mitchell family in 2004, though the site has a long history of whisky production. The distillery building was originally constructed in 1872 and was used by the Glengyle Distillery, which was in operation until 1925. After the closure, the building sat unused for many years.
The Mitchell family saw the potential in the site and decided to reopen it as a new distillery. They named the new venture after the original distillery, choosing the name Glengyle after the area around Campbeltown Bay.
The Mitchell family, known for their long history in Scotch whisky (they also own Springbank Distillery), were able to return the site to life and produce whisky under the Kilkerran brand.
Kilkerran is the name given to the single malt whisky produced at Glengyle Distillery. The brand name is derived from the nearby Kilkerran Bay.
The whiskies produced are not heavily peated, unlike Springbank, which offers both peated and unpeated expressions. However, Kilkerran still shares some similarities in style, with its maritime, earthy characteristics.
